Ornate Opening Box As I continue building up my base of props, I've begun creating more functional pieces which can be opened and closed. Doing props in this manner makes them more versatile but also requires more scanning and processing time and often destroys the original prop in the process.
JugSure it's a simple jug but even a jug has it's own beauty. And aren't these textures just awesome? Yes, the answer is yes. Actually, anytime a subject has more than two loops in it's geometry (i.e.-handles and such) it then requires custom UV cutting (ZBrush Remesh can't handle more than a single loop). So even as simple as this object is it still required a bit of custom processing.
Wooden Utensils When I came across these utensils I was pretty excited. Normally subjects of this size would be rather difficult to scan but these were not a traditional size. They were each about four feet long. Very fun and much more likely to resolve a scan well. Rustic Clay Mugs Set These clay mugs were just so awesome, I had to scan two. Here is the set. I created a specular mask so that you can render that neat glaze and did some smoothing on the model to enhance that shiny look of the glaze.
Metal Cup This is a big success for me. I finally resolved a model with a very thin walled element to it. The difficulty area of those metal cup is the very thin metal handle. But here it is, I got it. And now you can have it. This subject is great because it can fit in fantasy and medieval settings as well as old western scenes. Enjoy!
Clay Jar Here is a clay jar to complete the beautiful clay objects group. I really loved the clay texture work on these. I think it's a fantastic set.
Gold Vase This vase came out wonderfully. It was a bit of work to keep the lipped edge of the vase from corrupting itself as I decimated and reprojected it but with some retouching I got it completed. The texture really came out beautifully but I forgot to animate the subject to rotate so we don't get to see nearly enough of the light play. Oh, well.
MortarThis mortar subject actually gave me a lot of trouble. It was a great learning experience. I've learned to create my image sequences cross axis from each other. Getting the texture right was also difficult because of the concave surface of the bowl. I've begun using Photoshop's focus selection tool to create masks, isolating just the "in focus" portions of the texture from each image. So after quite a bit of work on this one, here it is.
Ceramic Whiskey Bottle This was an unexpected subject. A co-worker had some old whiskey bottles he uses as decor, that he let me scan. This was a very reflective subject so I was very happy to successfully resolve a clean diffuse texture with almost no specularity in it. Of course, I've attempted to rebuild the specularity and reflection in the CG texture. Enjoy!
Rough Box I finally got a chance to do another functional box. These require separate scans for each part. I was actually able to remove the pins from the hinges for scanning and then reassemble the box and reinsert the pins when I was done. This subject had such great wear and tear and a kind of common look to it, I thought it could work in many settings. Enjoy!
Golden Pitcher This was a fun scan from start to finish. A very fun style and I modded it so the handle ends at a point.
Rustic Mug + Blond Version
This is another 2 in 1 scan because I scanned this wooden mug and then gave it some real-world texturing treatment and scanned it again. I UV unwrapped the rustic scan and generated a texture. Then I aligned the rustic scan to the blond scan, imported the now aligned rustic model into the blond scan and generated the blond texture on the rustic model with the same UV's. Blah, blah, blah, end result is a great scan with a rustic and blond wood texture. Tada! Enjoy!
